Chaeto & Macroalgae
Refugium workhorses and natural filtration
Chaetomorpha (chaeto) and other macroalgae are grown in refugiums to export nitrates and phosphates from the water. They compete with nuisance algae for nutrients, improving water quality naturally. Some macroalgae like Caulerpa and Gracilaria are also grown as tang food.
